The advanced eye examination with OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
Why is OCT an Opticians weapon against the fight for eye health?
A few years ago, this type of technology could only be found in hospitals that dealt with more complex eye cases. However, a small number of Opticians now use an OCT to accurately assess and monitor an array of eye conditions.
We at Goldsmith and Harvey feel strongly that those who visit us, should have the opportunity to have this advanced eye examination performed. That's why we have invested in this advanced technology.
How the process works
In simple terms, like an MRI scan, the camera works by taking a series of snapshots of the interior parts of the eye. There-by, building a 3 dimensional cross section of it's individual layers.
These images are available almost immediately. Once received, they can be enlarged and examined in greater detail. This allows the Optometrist to instantly assess a number of eye conditions and their early warning signs. With every subsequent scan, this will grow to build a visual record of the health of your eyes.
The whole process is non-invasive and painless. Just simply put your chin on the rest, follow our collegue's instructions and allow the OCT scanner to do the rest.
Your advanced eye examination will include:
• The pre screening of your eyes with the OCT scanner and retinal photography.
• A full and complete sight examination, including visual fields and pressures.
• The analysis of your scan results.
• Advice and recommendations regarding your eye health.
• Any neccesary advice about visual correction.
At Goldsmith & Harvey, we pride ourselves in the advice and recommendations we provide. This advanced eye examination will give more detail about your overall eye health and an earlier detection of any changes. This gives us the ability to offer more comprehensive and indepth advice.
